In 1998, she won the Jean-Pierre Rampal International Competition in Paris, before going on to win the Bayreuth International Competition in 2000. Since then, she has enjoyed a rich international career, performing in over a thousand concerts in Europe and Asia. Naturalised French in 2006, she performs in a variety of contexts – recitals, chamber music, contemporary works – with a style renowned for its precision, sonic depth and musical elegance.
A committed teacher, Mihi Kim holds a Certificate of Aptitude and PEA Hors Classe (Specialised Teaching Aptitude Certificate) from the French Local Civil Service. She currently teaches flute at the École Normale de Musique de Paris – Alfred Cortot and at the CRD Issy-Vanves. Her teaching approach, which is both analytical and artistic, emphasises mental and physical awareness, sound construction, intonation through inner listening, reliable technique, cultural and stylistic reading, and individualised support for students preparing for competitions, higher education and their professional projects.
She also mentors a very young generation of particularly motivated flute players. Her rapidly growing class is distinguished by a rare balance between artistic rigour, playful learning and personal fulfilment. Mihi Kim pays particular attention to building solid technical foundations from an early age, while conveying the joy of making music as a true companion for life.
His cosmopolitan spirit and mastery of eight languages (Korean, German, English, French, Japanese, Spanish, Italian; basic Chinese and Latin) enable him to give themed masterclasses and concert-lectures in many countries, always adapted to the local cultural context. This hybrid format – combining teaching, performance and transmission – has become one of his trademarks.
Since 2020, she has also been developing her work in the digital field. She founded mmQ Recordings, a label dedicated to sound productions and innovative educational materials, combining her artistic experience and technological expertise.
Mihi Kim plays a Miyazawa CRESTA B flute in solid 900/000 platinum, engraved, produced in 2022.
