Markus Prause is a native of and has studied in Vienna. He graduated from the Conservatory for Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna, under the guidance of Dir. Horst Leichtfried. He continued his musical training in master classes and private lessons with important artists, such as A.Harasiewicz (Poland), J.Dichler (Wien), S.Maltsev (Petersburg) and W.Fleischmann (Vienna).During his studies he was awarded several 1st and 2nd prizes in national and international competitions.

Markus Prause has been appointed as a professor of piano performance at The Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. His students are actively concertizing and have won lot of awards in international piano competitions. Markus Prause is frequently invited to hold master classes throughout Europe and Asia and to participate as juror in international piano competitions.

In 2005 Prof. Prause and his wife, pianist Chen Chin-Lin, founded the Music Forum Vienna West, where he serves as artistic director.
The mission of the forum is to support and further the artistic and musical development of highly talented children. The Forum also provides a platform for concerts at an international level for the local public.

Markus Prause performs regularly as a piano soloist and chamber musician in Europe, South America and East Asia. He has performed at many renowned music festivals including the Vienna International Festival, IGNM-Festival, 20th Century Festival Prague, Spring-Festival Korea, Bach-Festival Salzburg, Chopin-Festival Gaming, and Festival Contemporary Music Lower Austria, to name a few.

Since his debut in 1985, Professor Prause has performed innumerable special recitals, orchestral concerts and piano duos, in addition to giving master classes.
