Quator Danel Photo: Marco BorggreveIn 1986, Gilles Millet obtained the second prize at the Paris International Bach Competition and entered Régis Pasquier’s class at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMD) the year after at the age of 15. He wins first prize and specialm prize for the contemporary masterpiece in 1991.

Gilles Millet is the one of the founder of the Danel Quartet and plays as second violin in it. From the begining, the Quartet becomes internationally known, being awarded with several distinctions in International Competitions in Florence, Evian, Saint-Petersburg (Chostakovitch) and London. The Amadeus and Borodine Quartets, Fiodor Droujinine (Beethoven Quartet), Walter Levin (Lasalle Quartet), Pierre Penassou (Parennin Quartet), Hugh Maguire… are the Danel Quartet’s@ mentors.

Well-known for its systematic introspection of the repertoire, the Danel Quartet have conceived many integral musical works such as Beethoven, Chostakovitch, Weinberg, Tchaïkovsky, Schubert, Brahms, Schumann, Bartók and Saygun.

The Quartet performs in worlwide venues and festivals, collaborates with many string quartets and soloists, has more than 30 recordings to its credit, and reveals itself as a openned toward creation and the world, collaborating with many composers (Rihm, Lachenmann, Mantovani, Dusapin, Gubaïdulina, Mernier, Fafchamps …).

Gilles Millets is also involved in the education community. He teached as an visiting professor at the Lyon Conservatoire (CNSMD) and Gent Orpheus Institute in 2003-2004 and regularly gives Master classes in United States, Asia and Europe. He also leaded an Academy ProQuartet in Pont-Royal in May 2015.

At the moment, Gilles Millet works as a music chamber professor at The Music and Education Higher School of Namur (Belgium), and he has been in residence with the Danel Quartet at Manchester University (UK) since 2005. He is also guest professor at NSKA of Amsterdam and artistic director of the Rurhof Domaine Musicales & Master-class.
