Julia Golkhovaya was born in St. Petersburg, Russia.

She received her first piano and composition lessons at the age of six. At the age of ten, she made her debut with the D major piano concerto by J. Haydn. In 1999, Julia Golkhovaya graduated from the special music school for gifted children at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.

From 2000 to 2007, Julia Golkhovaya studied with Prof Anatol Ugorski at the Detmold University of Music, where she graduated with a concert exam. She gained further musical inspiration in masterclasses by Homero Francesch, Rudolf Kehrer, Amadeus Webersinke, and Andras Schiff.

Julia Golkhovaya has been honored several times both as a chamber musician and a soloist by the chamber music foundation “Villa Musica”, European Chamber Music Competition Karlsruhe, Chopin Society Germany, German Music Competition, and the Federal Selection of Concerts by Young Artists, which led to extensive concert tours.

She has performed as a chamber musician at venues including the St Petersburg Philharmony, the Beethovenhalle Bonn, and the Essen Philharmony. She performs with several well-known musicians and is a regular guest at various festivals. She has made solo and chamber music recordings for Deutschlandradio Kultur, WDR, and SWR.

After teaching at the Detmold University of Music, Julia Golkhovaya has been a permanent member of the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf as a lecturer in piano and accompaniment since 2009.

From the winter semester 2022/23, the pianist took up a full-time piano position at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf, Germany.

In spring 2022, the CD with solo works by Chopin and Ravel was released by the Motette Psallite label.
