A few words from the artistic director
Musicalta will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026.
To bring an ambitious music festival to life far from major cities was the bold challenge we set ourselves in 1996.
Choosing excellence means constantly striving for greater heights. “ALTA” joined with “MUSIQUE”, and the first notes of MUSICALTA resonated one August evening in the mountains of the Alsatian Vosges.
The arrival of Musicalta in the Rouffach region in 2001 marked a new beginning. The festival found suitable venues for audiences as well as an exceptional natural and architectural heritage, ideally located along the Wine Route.
Here, the greatest masterpieces of 18th-century music coexist daily with contemporary creation, current music, and electroacoustic works. The residencies of P. Leroux, M. Levinas, W. Motz, S. Giraud, P. Mefano, T. Blondeau, N. Vérin, A. Schlünz, and J.-Y. Park are among the highlights that have shaped the festival’s history.
Musicalta also gives pride of place to composers who have sometimes been unjustly forgotten, such as the tribute to Charles Koechlin in 2000 and to Guillaume Lekeu in 2002…
“While the entire world celebrates Bach, Musicalta, which seems to have chosen productive margins, pays tribute to Charles Koechlin…”
Corinne Ibram – July 2000, L’Express
From the outset, in Trois-Épis, Labaroche, and then Rouffach, we have hosted ambitious concerts with prestigious guests including the Fine Arts Quartet, Guillaume Bellom, Gilles Apap, Philippe Bernold, Edgar Moreau, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, Jean-Philippe Collard, Augustin Dumay, Alexandre Tharaud, Michaël Levinas, Brigitte Engerer, Emma Johnson, Elisabeth Vidal, the Ewha Womans Seoul Orchestra (South Korea), the Baden-Baden Philharmonic, the San Luis Potosí Symphony Orchestra (Mexico), the Capella Istropolitana Chamber Orchestra of Bratislava (Slovakia), the Quatuor Debussy, the Quatuor Yako, and many others.
These outstanding musicians have accompanied us since 1996 in an adventure that, this season, will once again bring together remarkable performers from the classical music scene.
There is a Musicalta tone. Here, intimacy is essential, and music is approached with respectful closeness. The pricing policy and artistic choices open the festival wide to all audiences. A gathering of festivalgoers from all walks of life, Musicalta is a celebration where the excitement of the programming goes hand in hand with a relaxed atmosphere.
We invite you to share the experience of a festival unlike any other for this 30th edition.
