He will go\u00a0on to become guitarist and singer in several different rock bands.<\/p>\n<p>In 1990, he started his classical music studies in Montpellier at the conservatory and College of Musicology. He continued succesfully at Lyon CNSMD &#8211; Conservatoire National Sup\u00e9rieur de Musique de Lyon.<\/p>\n<p>He obtained numerous degrees ranging from the \u201clicence de musicologie\u201d (bachelor of musicology) to the DNESM &#8211; Dipl\u00f4me National d&#8217;Etudes Sup\u00e9rieures Musicales (the national diploma in higher musical studies) in numerous specialised area such as music writing under the instruction of Lo\u00efc Malli\u00e9, musical analysis in the class of G\u00e9rard Gastinel and orchestration, taught by Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Zygel, whereby he validated this degree with the mention of &#8216;outstanding&#8217; awarded unanimously by the jury at the Lyon CNSMD.<\/p>\n<p>Olivier Urbano also obtained the Certificate of Aptitude in accordion teaching issued by the\u00a0french Ministry of Culture.<\/p>\n<p>Olivier Urbano was also winner of several Prizes\u00a0; the Andr\u00e9 Messager Award (Athanor Association, Bourges) and Prizes at International competitions\u00a0: Castelfiardo (Italy) and Klingenthal (Germany).<\/p>\n<p>His musical interpretation paved the way for him on to play with violinist Marie-Annick Nicolas,\u00a0pianist Bruno Fontaine and trumpeter Thierry Caens, and also to collaborate under the direction\u00a0of such diverse personalities as Pierre Cao and Maurice Jarre. He has also been an invited guest\u00a0at such events as the Biennale of Venezia, the Transmusicales of Rennes in France, and the Pal\u00e9o Festival in Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>Olivier Urbano recorded a disc in duet with violin as \u00ab\u00a0Duo H\u00e9lios\u00a0\u00bb which is the fruit of a large amalgamate of his know-how : chamber music, transcription, original compositions , which is critically acclaimed.<\/p>\n<p>The musical arrangements of Olivier Urbano lead him to work in the milieu of the \u00ab\u00a0chanson\u00a0fran\u00e7aise\u00a0\u00bb, a style of French popular music, with such young artists as Barcella (Champion of\u00a0France in the 2007 slam competition, Laureate \u00ab\u00a0Tout\u00a0\u00bbfor music in 2007, Laureate \u00ab\u00a0Nouvelle Sc\u00e8ne&#8217;\u00a0\u00bb (new scene) Mosa\u00efk 2006, JT (young talent) of television network France 2) with whom he graces the stages with modern-day music alongside such artists as Lisa Portelli.<\/p>\n<p>As a composer, Olivier Urbano has been solicited to work with symphonic orchestras such as \u00ab\u00a0Orchestre de Dijon\/Bourgogne\u00a0\u00bb (Burgundy) and the Opera de Rouen (Normandy).<\/p>\n<p>His solo works and chamber music have made the their world tour : \u201cTrilles et Volutes\u201d is\u00a0performed in Peking, Warsaw and Moscow&#8230; and \u201cBethl\u00e9em Dolois\u201d an arrangement for chamber\u00a0music is played in Scandinavia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>The combination of his talents\u00a0&#8211; composer, arranger, accordionist, bandoneonist and by the use of\u00a0an assortment of electronic devices &#8211; is concentrated in the group Zig Zaton which incorporates\u00a0the elegance of classical and contemporary music into modern-day amplified style.<\/p>\n<p>Olivier Urbano is also passionate about pedagogy\u00a0; he is professor of accordion, composing and arranging at the \u00ab\u00a0P\u00f4le d&#8217;Enseignement Sup\u00e9rieur de la Musique de Bourgogne\u00a0\u00bb (Dijon, Burgundy), at the Musicology UER of the \u00ab\u00a0Universit\u00e9 des Arts et Lettres\u00a0\u00bb and also at the Dijon CRR &#8211; Conservatoire \u00e0 Rayonnement R\u00e9gional.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, he is developing a method of initiation to the creation for all instruments and all levels\u00a0based on an acquisition of notions of music writing and improvisation.
