Velitchka Yotcheva
Velitchka Yotcheva is one of the most gifted canadian cellist of her generation. She pursues a brilliant soloist's career. Her performances are very applauded by the public and journalists. She inherited, during her studies, the best traditions of the cello Russian school represented by M. Rostropovitch and S. Kozolupov. Born in Stara Zagora in Bulgaria, Velitchka Yotcheva began her musical studies at 5 years old with the professor Tacho Tachev. At 18, she went to Moscow Tchaïkovski Conservatory where she worked during five years in Marina Tchaikovskaya class (M. Rostropovitch's assistant) and then with professor Valentin Feigin. She also followed string quartett class with professor Alexandre Korchagin (cellist of the Chostakovitch Quartet). In 1992, she obtained her diploma “Master of Arts” at Moscow Tchaïkovski Conservatory. In 1995, Velitchka Yotcheva emigrated in Canada and obtained her doctorate in 2000 at Montreal University under the supervision of Yuli Turovsky. In 1996, She has been the prize-winner of the International Competition of Orford Center of Arts (Canada). Velitchka Yotcheva is regularly performing concerts in Russia, Bulgaria, France, Canada and United States. Fascinated by chamber music, she created a Duo with th pianist Patrice Laré and also the Trio Rachmaninoff, groups with which she made several tours in Europe and in U.S.A. She participates in prestigious festivals such as, the Festival of music of the Trembling Mountain, the summer Festival of the House Trestler, the International Festival of Chamber music of the Niagara, the Alexandria (Ontario) festival, the Chamber music Festival of the High Laurentian … She also performed, in Montreal, for the tour “to play on the Island”, for the Pro Musica Society, as well as for the Montreal Chamber music Society. In Bulgaria, she participated in the Musical Weeks of Sofia, in the International Festivals of Chamber music of Plovdiv and Stara Zagora. More recently, in September, 2003, Velitchka Yotcheva was the guest of the Festival International Bravissimo in Guatemala City (Central America). Velitchka Yotcheva is also a recognized teacher ; she gives regularly Master classes in Bulgaria, Canada and in United States. She teaches in such summer academies as ISMA (Musical International School of Arts - the Niagara, Ontario), MIMC (Montreal International Music Camp) and Weathersfield Music Festival (Vermont). In February, 2004, Velitchka Yotcheva realised her first album with the Montreal Rachmaninoff Trio, under label ATMA classique (Canada). Her second CD in April, 2005, was made under label Disks XXI-21 (Canada) with pieces of virtuosity for cello and piano. In spring, 2005, Velitchka Yotcheva recorded the complete of J. S Bach cello Suites, again under label Disks XXI-21. This double album, went out in December, 2005. To underline this event, Velitchka Yotcheva played in concert the Suites of Bach, on December 11th, 2005 in the Historic Chapel of the Good Pasteur in Montreal. A new disk dedicated to sonatas for cello and piano of C. Franck and of J. Brahms went out in April, 2008. |
