Apostolos Palios
Apostolos Palios has been described as “a true
artist, one of the most exciting pianists that Greece has to offer. A very
special musician of rare qualities, sincerity, musical intelligence and
artistic integrity” (Musicos Tonos Magazine, Constantine P.
Carambelas-Sgourdas). Born in Greece (Carditsa), in 1979, Palios began playing
the piano at an early age. He studied at the Larissa Conservatory and graduated
in 1997 with distinction and first prize. He continued his piano studies at the
Musikacademie of Berlin Hanns Eisler with Prof. Georg Sava and at the
Musikacademie of Leipzig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy with Prof. Markus Tomas,
where he received master- and soloist diploma with distinction. He also studied
chamber music and conducting. He has studied musicology at the University of
Athens and is currently working toward a dissertation examining the piano
compositions of Loris Margaritis. He has received lessons from distinguished artists
Aldo Ciccolini, Cyprien Katsaris, Yonty Solomon and George Hadjinikos. He has won scholarships from the Costopoulos
Foundation, from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, from the Greek National
Scholarships Foundation, from the State of Leipzig, and from the World in
Harmony Foundation. He is the prizewinner of several National and
International Piano, Chamber Music and Composition Competitions in Greece
(S.A.O.Th Competition, CH.O.N. Piano Competition, Patras Piano Competition,
Saratsi Piano Competition, Vikelas Piano Competition, Maria
Chairogiorgou-Sigara Piano Competition, Gina Bachauer Competition), Germany
(Leipzig-Yamaha Piano Competition, Kuhlau Competition, Berlin-Hanns Eisler
Prize, Wφlfenbόttel Competition), Spain (Ibiza Piano Competition) and Italy
(Rovere d’ Oro Competition). He has received a special award from the Academy
of Athens. He has appeared in many concerts given in Greece,
Germany, Norway, Russia, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Rumania, France and
elsewhere. He is a frequent guest at many International Festivals and has
performed on television. As a soloist he has appeared with many orchestras
(Athens State Symphony Orchestra, Athens Youth Symphony Orchestra, String
Orchestra of Patras, Larissa Symphony Orchestra, Volos Symphony Orchestra, Neue
Elbland Philharmonie, Orchestra of the Music Comedy Leipzig and others). He has
also participated in CD recordings and has given the first world performances
of piano works. He is a member of the well-known Αurora (Piano) Quartett of
Germany. Upcoming engagements include appearances in
Greece, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Austria and Germany, as well as CD
recordings. |
