For 150 years many generations have admired the sounds of the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra. Throughout this period, the most famous artists have collaborated with the orchestra, directly influencing it’s artistic performance. Notable conductors in the orchestra’s history have included Johann Strauss, who’s enthusiastic admiration of its artistic qualities can be read in the historical archive of the orchestra, and Hector Berlioz, Jacques Offenbach, Johannes Brahms, Richard Strauss, Pietro Mascagni, Artur Nikisch, Wilhelm Furtwängler, Bruno Walter, George Szell and Otto Klemperer. The list of soloists reads like a “Who’s Who” of musical history, from Franz Liszt and Pablo Casals to José Carreras.The stage in the ancient “capital of summer in Europe” was and still is their meeting point.

With such historical foundations today’s generation of musicians in the Baden-Baden orchestra has no difficulty in enriching the scale of performances with interesting and successful ideas. Here you will find numerous traditional symphonic concerts, performances of modern Music, original Event- and Gala concerts and popular activities for young musicians. For many years the Carl-Flesch-Masterclass with professors from the “Berliner Philharmoniker” has attracted young soloists from all over the world. The summer festival “Philharmonic summer Baden-Baden” with spectacular open air concerts and numerous crossover activities is one of the highlights in the cultural life in this region of Germany. Successful CD recordings and television productions are testimony to the artistic abilities of the ensemble.

Concert tours take the orchestra all over the world, with enthusiastic audiences applauding in Berlin, Munich, Zurich, Brescia, Peking, Shanghai, Dubai and many other important centers of cultural life.
