František Novotný
František Novotný was born on March 28th in 1964 in Znojmo where he attended the LŠU (today ZUŠ - basic art school ), studying with L.Pospíchal. He continued his studies at the Brno Conservatory under the leadership of Professor B. Kotmel senior, and at JAMU in the class of Professor B.Smejkal. He attended many international performance courses with such violin virtuosos as Zakhar Bron and Victor Tretjakov, who greatly influenced him. He was successfully awarded with first prizes, and special awards in about 20 international competitions such as Jaroslav Kocián, Concertino Praga, Beethoven competition in Hradec, O. Ševčík in Písek , Tchaikovsky in Moscow, Prague Spring Festival, Premio Paganini in Genoa and Tokyo. He is also holder of the prize of the RAI Italian radio and television company and of the H. Wieniawski medal. He plays a wide repertory in cooperation with the leading Czech ensembles such as Prague Chamber Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, Prague National Symphonic Orchestra, Brno State Philharmonic Orchestra, B. Martinů Philharmonic and abroad orchestras. Besides performing in his country (Prague Spring Festival, Moravian Autumn, Janáček´s May,...), František Novotný gives concerts on the most famous stages in Europe ; in Belgium, France, Italy, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Holland, United Kingdom, Japan ( Suntory Hall, Tokyo Bunka Kainkan, Izumi Hall,…) and U.S.A (Carnegie Hall,…). František Novotný recorded a great number of CDs for foreign and Czech labels, and he cooperates with many radio and television all over the world ( Czech Radio, WNYC - New York, WAMC - Albany, NHK.. ). František Novotný also devotes himself to introducing composers less known in the Czech surrounding. He performed in Czechoslovak and Czech premieres with many pieces for solo violin (Jan Novák…) and sonatas with piano (A.Copland…) and also Bernstein´s Serenade after Plato´s Symposium“, violin concerts of S. Barber, pieces from M.Rózsa and mainly E.W. Korngold whose work is very close to him. He recorded the sonatas of E.W.Korngold and Richard Strauss with pianist Serguei Milstein with whom he has been performing since 1993. At the same time, František Novotný also devotes himeself to teaching. He is violin Professor professor at the Brno Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts. He is also invited to give master classes in Czech Republic, Japan and U.S.A and he is a regular jury of numerous international competitions. |
