Sylvie Deguy

After high mathematics university studies (maîtrise and CAPES Diplomas) and 15 years studying piano, Sylvie Deguy turns towards classical singing.

She studies in Paris with Lise Arséguet and Gianfranco Rivoli, and then with Alberta Valentini in Roma, Vera Rosza at Nice summer masterclass, Daniel Ferro in Royaumont, David Pollard in London, and then again in Paris with Jean-Pierre Blivet and David Pittman-Jennings.

At the same time, in 1982, Sylvie Deguy enters as a third soloist in the Groupe Vocal de France, a 12 soloists group essentially practicing contemporary music. For 4 years she develops with interest her knowledge of contemporary music in France and outwards by performing under the direction of John Alldis, Michel Tranchant, Eric Ericsson and Peter Eötvös.

She starts a soloist career, singing a lot of creation work such as "OrphéeIII" (Xavier Darasse), played in Radio France ; "Cantilène en flamme" (Yves Krier) under the direction of A.Schnitzler played in Rennes (France) ; "Alegrias" (Manuel Hidalgo), under the direction of H. Zender at the Paris Rond Point Theater; "Un enchaînement si prolongé de la grâce" (Jacques Lenot), under the direction of E. Ericsson, at the G. Pompidou Center in Paris; "After long silence" (Patrick Marcland), directed by D. Cohen, played in Radio France ; "de la Nature de l'eau" (Georges Aperghis), directed by P. Eötvös; "Concertation" (Michaël Lévinas), with the Itinéraire Ensemble played in the Paris Cité de la musique; "Délibération des fissures" (Jakubowsky), played in Bordeaux ; "Fragments corbuséens palmés" (G. Bloch); "les Lingères" (Jean Christophe Feldhandler); "Villes imaginées" (Christian Sébille)...

Sylvie Deguy also performs contemporary works such as Pierre Boulez oeuvre ; "le Marteau sans Maître", directed by L. Pfaff and played in Berlin, and directed by A. Neveu in Prague, also Ligeti’s work ; "Aventures et nouvelles aventures", directed by A. Neveu at Reims Auditorium, a Carlos Roque-Alsina work ; "pièces de musique de chambre", played in Paris Cortot Concert Hall, some Stravinsky wors ; "les Berceuses du chat", "Trois poèmes de Shakespeare", at Paris St-Marcel Church and also Arrigo, Dallapiccola, Varese, Webern, Berio, Britten works...

On scene, she sings operas such as "la Célestine" from Maurice Ohana, (Lucrèce role), directed by A. Tamayo, at Paris Palais Garnier, "Ginevradegli Almieri" from R. Diambrini, (mother’s role), at Geneva Alhambra theater, "le Jeu du Narcisse" from M.O. Dupin, (Echo’s role), at Aubervilliers Theater, and some more classical works as "Didon et Enée" from H. Purcell, (Didon’s role), or "Semele" from Haendel (Ino’s role).

Sylvie Deguy collaborates with contemporary choreographers such as Cécile Proust for "concert de danse", with Hosokawa, Britten, Berio and Berg music at Paris Filles du Calvaire Galerie ; as Marcelline Lartigue for "l'Antichambre des contes", in Philippe Le Goff music at Evry Agora, or as Nadine Hernu for "Sanguine", with Patrick Marcland music at La Rochelle ; and as Touffik, "Improvisation voix et danse", at Pantin J. Brel Concert Hall.

Sylvie Deguy sang a few years with A Sei Voci Ensemble in concerts mixing contemporary and classical music.

Besides, she sings all the classical sacred music as Bach Passions, B Mess or Cantatas, Haendel Messie, Pergolese Stabat mater, Rossini Petite messe solennelle, Mozart Requiem, "Elias" from Mendelssohn, "le Martyre de St-Sébastien" from Debussy, Durufle Requiem....

Sylvie Deguy is also fascinated by chamber music. She sings the French melodies and German Lieder repertoire such as Debussy Bilitis , Ravel Poèmes de Mallarmé), Berg opus 2, Schrecker 5 lieder für tiefe Stimm), Zemlinsky opus 13, and also Schubert, Brahms, Schumann liederkreis op. 39, Strauss opus 15, Wagner Wesendonck lieder, Britten Canticle - Abraham and Isaac, Tipett Songs for Ariel with S. Patterson ( ténor), and Jeff Cohen, (piano)...

She also plays récitals with the pianist Karine Zarifian, at Radio France, at Paris Conservatory (XVI) Concert Hall..

Sylvie Deguy is also fascinated by teaching : since 2003, she is singing Professor at PARIS Conservatoire National Supérieur d'Art Dramatique.
