Professional biography of António Saiote
António Saiote

Born in Loures the 14 of July of 1960.

He finished his diploma in the National Conservatory in 1979 with the highest score in the class of Marcos Romão. He was soloist in the Symphonic Youth Orchestra since 1973. He represented Portugal in World Youth Orchestra in 1977 (Korea and Japan) and 1982 (Hungary) and 1983 (Spain).

He studied as a fellow of the Gulbenkian Foundation in Paris with Guy Deplus and Jacques Lancelot and in Munchen with Gerd Starke where he got the Meisterdiplom with distinction.

First Prize Arts and Ideas (Chamber Music and Soloist competing amongst all instruments), First Prize New Values of Culture (Chamber Music and Soloist), Antonio Saiote obtains regularly reviews in the journals Público, Diário de Notícias, Zurcher Zeheung, Monde de la Musique and ICA.

He was soloist in the orchestra of the National Opera House of São Carlos and in the Régie Sinfónica where he was the only Portuguese soloist.

Member of the Group of Contemporary Music of Lisbon with Jorge Peixinho for 11 years.

Member of the Jury in the sanctioned competitions of Toulon, Constancia, Sevilha e president of Valentino Buchi em Roma, Varsóvia, Caracas e Kortrik.

Invited soloist in congresses in the USA, Belgium, France, Sweden, Canada and Japan, having been co-organizer and mentor of the World Congress of Clarinet 2009 in Oporto.

Performed or taught in more than twenty Countries, in Asia, Europe, America and Northern Africa. He was professor in the conservatories of Coimbra, Figueira da Foz, Castelo Branco, Lisbon, Academy of Évora and the Amadores da Música, High School of Lisbon, University of Aveiro and Católica of Oporto.

Currently he is professor in ESMAE (Oporto).

Performed in the Festivals of Sintra, Estoril, Nancy, Xangai, Macau, Rabat, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Caracas, San José, Santos, Lima, Yangi, Musicalta, Oviedo, Guimarães, Aveiro, Vila Real, Póvoa de Varzim, Paços de Brandão, Espinho, Algarve, Madeira, Açores e Folle Journée (CCB).

His pupils perform in all Portuguese Orchestras (best ratio for nationalities/instrument) and also teach in the best schools. They are also detainers of international awards.

He was chief conductor of the Templários National Orchestra of Winds as well as assistant conductor of the Classic Orchestra of Oporto.
